About

My interest in environmental science along with a longing for a sociological perspective is what drew me to the field of geography. I pursued a BSc in geography at the University of British Columbia where I specialized in GIS and minored in Urban Studies. Here I developed an interest in how people interact with urban environments and for a short period of time worked as a research assistant researching Indigenous development projects in the lower mainland.

At the same time, I began working in a geospatial ecology lab where I had the opportunity to conduct fieldwork in Cambodia. This was an exciting field season and led me to consider graduate school as a next step. My master’s research was focused on tropical forest-savanna mosaics in Southeast Asia, where I used field and remote sensing techniques to study boundaries between forests and savannas. One of my favorite parts of my masters was getting to work as a teaching assistant for remote sensing and cartography courses, those experiences led me to pursue work in an educational context. I love that geography blends art, the humanities, and physical sciences and believe it’s a great environment for people to develop their math and science skills while also getting to explore their creativity.

In my spare time I enjoy being outside – swimming in the ocean, cycling, hiking – but I equally love getting cozy with a book, drawing, and playing music.
