New Student Orientation Sessions

Get ready for your first semester by attending an in-person New Student Orientation Session! We will give you a look at life on campus, walk you through the new student checklist and introduce you to student services which support your 51Ç鱨վ journey. Come to connect with peers and have your questions answered!

Choose the one offered by your faculty. If its schedule does not work for you or if there is not one being offered for your faculty, attend a general one. If you are unsure which faculty you are in, check out the Programs webpage.

Our orientation workshops set you up for success at 51Ç鱨վ. Check out the workshop offerings below and be sure to register for the ones that are of interest to you. All are listed in PST time.

For domestic students

Learn how to register for courses by attending a Registration 101 Workshop online! You will learn how to choose your courses, when to register for courses and how. This is also an opportunity to ask Enrolment Services Advisors questions about course registration. Content of the workshops on June 26 and July 8 are the same.

For international students

A casual welcome to our first-semester international students! We will introduce you to our 51Ç鱨վ International team and the services we can provide you to help you throughout your time at 51Ç鱨վ. We will also cover Canadian culture and tips for settling into your new home.

Planning on Travelling to Canada? There are a few things to be aware of before you make an informed decision. Point of Entry update, travel documents, booking your flight, arriving in YVR and more.

Overview of important documents, enrolment status, working eligibility, SIN, and PGWP.

Studying in Canada can be very different than your home country. Attend this workshop to learn about tips for success and pitfalls to avoid.

In collaboration with the Career Center, we will introduce you to some of your options for career skills and support at 51Ç鱨վ.

Speak with current Mentors and learn more about their experience of being a 51Ç鱨վ student! Learn more about our Mentorship Program and how to be matched with a senior international student who can mentor you through your first semester at 51Ç鱨վ.

Peer Tutors from the Learning Centre will share strategies to help you get ready for your first semester by creating a study schedule, note-taking strategies, active reading, communicating with your instructor, etc. Join us to learn all the handy tips to be a successful 51Ç鱨վ student and get a chance to win a gift card!

Online orientation course

DCUE 0200 - New Student Orientation is a self-paced online course designed for new 51Ç鱨վ students. It lives on and it covers all the basics of how to get ready for your first semester here. Learn about all the new student essentials such as how to get your student ID card and where to get your textbooks. Discover the students services available to you. Plus, find out how you can get involved in the 51Ç鱨վ community.

This online course should not be considered a substitution of the in-person Orientation Sessions mentioned above.

All new students will be automatically enrolled into this course in early August. Please check under the "Courses" section on your Blackboard.
