About
I am a poet, and enjoy teaching literature from the perspective of craft and technique, as well as through the lens of social and cultural history. My first collection of poetry appeared with Signature Editions in 2017. More recently, I was awarded the 2021 CBC Poetry prize for my poem 鈥淛ames.鈥
My teaching areas include eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature; the novel; contemporary Canadian poetry; academic writing; and gender, sexuality, and women鈥檚 studies.

Research summary
My current research focuses on women鈥檚 writing in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, in Britain and North America. I am interested in the history of women鈥檚 legal rights, property ownership, and mobility, at a time when the movements of goods and of people was swiftly accelerating, and in how the novel became a leading cultural form for expressing domestic, economic, and social change. Recent articles include work on Charlotte Smith, Harriet Martineau, and my perennial favourite, Jane Austen.
