Costumes for Stage and Screen
Curriculum guideline
Lecture: 2 hours/week
and
Lab: 2 hours/week
up to a maximum of 48 hours
Students will receive a combination of lecture and lab-based instruction that includes independent work and one-on-one instruction using industry standard costuming equipment. Field trips and guest speakers will be included where possible.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate proper use and care of costume shop equipment;
- Demonstrate sewing skills and costume construction techniques;
- Perform proper fittings, basic alterations, care and maintenance of costumes;
- Perform basic textile dying and costume ageing techniques;
- Understand the roles of costume department in stage and screen environments;
- Research, analyze and break down scripts for costuming requirements;
- Understand costume design concepts and interpret designer’s sketches.
Assessment will be based on course objectives and will be carried out in accordance with the 51Ç鱨վ Evaluation Policy. An evaluation schedule will be presented at the beginning of the course. This is a graded course.
Students are expected to be self-motivated and to demonstrate professionalism, which includes active participation, good attendance, punctuality, effective collaboration, and ability to meet deadlines.
Instructors may use a student’s record of attendance and/or level of active participation in the course as part of the student’s graded performance. Where this occurs, expectations and grade calculations regarding class attendance and participation will be clearly defined in the instructor’s course outline.
