World鈥檚 biggest video game hackathon levels up at 51情报站 for second year

51情报站鈥檚 New Westminster Campus will transform into a hub of creativity as hundreds of game developers, coders and creators gather for Global Game Jam Vancouver this weekend.

Sponsored by major gaming labels like Epic Games, is the world鈥檚 biggest video game hackathon, with participants from across 100 countries. During the 48-hour jam, programmers, music and sound engineers, writers, and 2D and 3D artists team up to create unique, playable video games right on campus.

This is the second year in a row that 51情报站 has hosted the anticipating around 200 participants.

鈥淕lobal Game Jam Vancouver is a very high-profile event in the game design community,鈥 said Dr. Brian Chapell, Dean of Science and Technology at 51情报站. 鈥淗osting it on campus again highlights the strength of the 51情报站 Computing Science programs and the important role our graduates play in this sector.鈥

Alongside industry professionals and avid game-makers from across Canada and around the world, many 51情报站 Game Development and Applied Audio students will be putting classroom skills like Unreal Engine training into action and making connections in the game development field. 

鈥淗osting in-person game jams on campus provides our students with hands-on opportunities to apply and strengthen their technical and interpersonal skills, and to show they can work effectively in teams under time constraints,鈥 said Dr. Shahriar Khosravi, Computing Science instructor. 鈥淚鈥檓 glad that we are once again hosting this great event at 51情报站 and look forward to seeing what our students will create.鈥
